For now Chitty Chitty Bang Bang just has Tuesdays through Thursdays at 7pm with Friday and Saturday shows at the typical 8pm, but, beginning July 5, the production will do away with 8pm curtains all together. On that day, the family-friendly musical will institute a new schedule, with Tuesday through Saturday 7pm curtains with 2pm matinees on Wednesday and Saturday and a 3pm performance on Sunday.
"I think this is the schedule that most Broadway musicals will have soon," Chitty producer Frederick Zollo told Broadway.com. "Tuesdays at 7 work for most shows. The timing allows people to get home on the weeknights a little earlier. I think audiences appreciate that. It is time to change the Broadway schedule to make it more convenient for the audiences."
While other shows have tried their own kind of family-friendly schedule, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which bills itself as "the most fantasmagorical stage musical in the history of everything," will be the first show to remove 8pm curtains from its lineup altogether.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang began performances at the Hilton Theatre on March 27 and officially opens on April 28. Raul Esparza, Erin Dilly, Philip Bosco, Jan Maxwell, Marc Kudisch and Kevin Cahoon star.
